Welcome all
As educators, you add new educational tools and techniques to your practice through professional development (PD). This investment in PD elevates your teaching but some of that learning can be lost over time. It can be difficult for educators to decide on how to document this learning and reflect on how it affects their classrooms. You can forget the moments of insight, reflection, and the bones of the next great idea if they are not documented for future use. Also, educators can be hesitant to use new tools or techniques unless they hear about how they have been employed by other teachers and the benefits of doing so. Using a Professional Learning Platform (PLP) can aid you in tracking this learning for self-reflection and future implementation into your classroom.
|
For the purposes of this website, a use case of designing and implementing a PLP solution for teachers in a K-16 educational environment is employed.
|
Purpose of this websiteTo demonstrate the steps of a strong development and implementation process for a Professional Learning Platform that documents educator professional learning. |
Your guide
In the site navigation, you will also find a 'Curriculum' link. The document you find there is a guide to using our Road Map, so it is in a sense a “guide on using a guide”. The information provided there is designed to help you understand the theories and rationales behind a PLP and its implementation process, as well as provide some practical illustrative examples.
How to use this site
We strongly suggest that if this is your first time visiting this site that you move through it in the order presented, as each topic builds on the previous and will give you a strong view at every step of the development, implementation, and review process. However, if only certain subjects are pertinent to your practice feel free to proceed directly to those steps.
OUR TEAM
We believe that it is important that you know who we are so you understand our passion and interest in the area of PD Development. We will do your due diligence for you....
Daniel KimHaving been a teacher over 7 years, in three vastly different environments, I've come to recognize the importance of being self-reflective for personal growth. I am currently working with colleagues to integrate a LMS in our mathematics courses for reliable assessment data. I hope this project will encourage fellow educators to share experiences, insights, and engage in meaningful conversations.

Melanie LaurieI have been teaching for over 10 years, mostly in middle school sciences. I am a science geek at heart and love to encourage a sense of curiosity and wonder in my students. I am a firm believer in creating meaningful or authentic learning experiences, so I am always on the hunt for tools and opportunities that allow anyone, educators or students, to showcase their work or ideas and can fully represent who they are.

Stefanie NittaI have been working in Abu Dhabi as a grade 4 homeroom teacher. I am fortunate enough to have access to an array of technology. Finally stable and confident as a teacher, I wanted something that can track my growth as a teacher. How do assignments and projects change over the years? I also wanted to integrate more technology into the classroom, and with the infinite amount of options, I wanted a place to organize all of the apps and programs available. This got me thinking about a professional portfolio. Not as an assessment tool but reflection of my best practices used in the classroom.

Paul ShuebrookIntegrating technology in an all-girls' school over the past 10 years has often involved reflection on my own growth as well as trying different approaches to encouraging adoption of new tools among my colleagues. Fostering continuous professional learning is a priority at our school, so I am keen to develop a practical understanding of how a professional learning platform might be successfully developed and introduced to our faculty and staff.

Tanya WederI believe that creating collaborative environments to help elevate the work of all. In the post-secondary classroom, I see how understanding and quality are improved through thorough documentation, sharing, and critique. Therefore, I see the value in extending this process to educators themselves, which is why I am so proud of what this working group has accomplished and is now presenting to you!
